Media Release - The Honourable Stephen Mc Clashie, Minister of Labour addresses the Afternoon Plenary of the 111th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva

The Honourable Stephen Mc Clashie, Minister of Labour commended the Chairperson of the Standard-Setting Committee on Apprenticeships, Mr. Luis Claudino de Oliveira following the adoption of the new Recommendation on Apprenticeships on Thursday, June 15th 2023.   Minister Mc Clashie was delivering his second address at the International Labour Conference, which is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland. 

The Minister of Labour stated, “These recommendations set a new International Standard on Apprenticeships and would serve as a guideline for the 187-member states in the promotion and regulation of Quality Apprenticeships.”  He told Members that Trinidad and Tobago is currently in the process of finalizing a National Policy on Apprenticeships that will be administered by the National Training Agency. The Honourable Minister also reiterated that through engagement with national tripartite stakeholders, Trinidad and Tobago has actively participated at every step of the development process of this new International Labour Standard.

The Standard-Setting Committee would have worked over the course of Thirteen Sittings to negotiate the text of a Recommendation which the Conference will adopt.

Minister Mc Clashie is leading the Trinidad and Tobago delegation at the 111th Session of the International Labour Conference, which is taking place from June 05 and will conclude on June 16, 2023, in Geneva, Switzerland.
